Distributed Virtual Instruments (DVI)
ChronoLogic has released the first product from its new Distributed Virtual Instrument (DVI) range, the CL4000 Oscilloscope / Digitizer. ChronoLogic developed the DVI range to bring a new level of flexibility and precision to the Virtual Instrumentation market. The CL4000, a 14 bit Oscilloscope/Digitizer, provides high-end specifications with USB connectivity and precise synchronization capabilities.
Each DVI product is a stand alone USB module that provides a specific functionality in a small, rugged form factor. While DVI units can operate in a stand-alone fashion, each unit is also enabled with ChronoLogic’s patented USB-inSync™ technology, which enables it as a building block in the creation of large virtual instrumentation setups consisting of up to 100 DVI devices, all synchronized to within ±1ns.
The DVI range combines synchronous modular hardware with deterministic controller software to provide a Virtual Instrumentation solution that can grow with the needs of the user. Unlike some Virtual Instrumentation platforms, ChronoLogic’s DVI range combines highly accurate timing and synchronization (±1ns) with distributed functionality, meaning that the hardware modules are not limited to a rack or backplane. With the USB connection topology, users can easily add synchronous units to a system and distribute them using USB hubs and cables.
Cross-Platform Synchronization
ChronoLogic is developing a range of cross-platform synchronization devices that provide users with connectivity and synchronization across a range of instrumentation platforms. Traditionally, instrumentation users have struggled with poor interoperability between various instrumentation protocols such as USB, IEEE-1588 (Ethernet) and PXI. This new cross-platform technology provides unprecedented interoperability between various protocols, allowing them to be combined within hybrid systems and synchronized / controlled in a deterministic manner.
